Major blow for Manchester City as key figure suffers fractured foot on international duty

Manchester City forward Ferran Torres is set to spend a number of weeks on the sidelines after fracturing his foot on international duty with Spain.

Torres showed glimpses of brilliance in his debut campaign at the Etihad, while being a rather inconsistent performer as he was rotated in and out of Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Spaniard’s significance has increased this campaign, with Sergio Aguero having departed on a free transfer and no replacement having been signed.

Torres is as close to a striker as Guardiola has at his disposal, but unfortunately for the City boss, he’ll have to do without him for the coming weeks.

The champions confirmed on mancity.com that Torres had fractured his foot while playing for Spain over the international break and will be sidelined for an unspecified period of time.

City have 11 games in six weeks, the likely period of time that Torres will be out of action. It’s unclear at this point in time how Guardiola is going to fill the void through the middle.

Gabriel Jesus has proven himself far more effective out on the right wing, but Pep might be left with no choice but to field him in a more central role in the weeks that lie ahead.
