‘Absolutely pathetic’ – These furious fans react to ‘pocket change’ fines for big six’s involvement in Super League

Football fans on Twitter have been reacting to the news that the Premier League ‘big six’ will only be fined £3.6M for their attempts to join the European Super League.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham rocked English football back in April with their attempts to join a newly-formed European Super League, which would put an end to football as we know it.

The best players, the best teams, every week – that was the proposition made by the 12 founding clubs.

While, on paper, that sounds like a blast, when it became clear that it was nothing more than a cash-grab that looked to put an end to any possibility of the big boys being dethroned, fans gathered in their masses to protest.

Thankfully, the fury of the fans resulted in the scheme collapsing, with the clubs going back on their decisions to form the breakaway league, but with the expectation that they would still be punished for their attempts.

That punishment has now been officially announced in a Premier League statement, which reveals that all six clubs will pay just north of £3.6M each, which will be reinvested into ‘grassroots football and community programmes.’

As you’d probably have expected, fans are not best pleased with the clubs, all of whom are owned by billionaires, being fined such paltry sums for threatening to destabilise the whole English football pyramid.

Here’s what some angry supporters on Twitter had to say about the news.
