Everton approach two Premier League LEGENDS over vacant managerial position

Both Wayne Rooney and Jose Mourinho are understood to be on Everton’s shortlist of potential replacements for Rafa Benitez.

Benitez was dismissed by Everton on Sunday in wake of their disappointing defeat away at Norwich City. The mood had soured to a point where a Toffees fan stormed the pitch in an attempt to confront their manager.

Now Benitez has been moved on, attention turns to considering who could be brought in to replace him. According to the Telegraph, both Jose Mourinho and Wayne Rooney are in the running to get the job.

The report claims that Mourinho, who is currently in charge of AS Roma, has already been sounded out, while Rooney, who is achieving miracles at Derby County, could be approached.

The worry for Everton is that neither manager is likely to abandon the project they are working on mid-season, thus hanging their current employers out to dry.

There is no obvious, suitable Benitez successor available for Everton, which could worry the supporters, with their side hanging precariously above the Premier League relegation zone.

Ultimately, though, now is a time for celebration after they successfully chased away the man who will surely go down as their most hated manager of all-time.
