In a HUGE blow for England and Gareth Southgate, Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has been ruled out of the World Cup.

Southgate is already enduring somewhat of a selection headache ahead of the competition, with several of his full-backs currently out injured.

Reece James would almost certainly have started in Qatar if fit, but the Chelsea star suffered a knee injury and is unlikely to be available for selection.

Sadly, the same is also now the case for Ben Chilwell, with the left-back suffering a hamstring injury in a dead rubber Champions League game midweek.

As is reported by Goal, Chilwell has confirmed that he will not be able to compete in the tournament, with the extent of his hamstring injury definitively ruling him out.

As a player, you never really know how many international tournaments you will be in the frame to compete in, so it’s a dream-crusher from Chilwell’s perspective.

We wish him all the best and hope that his recovery is as speedy as can be. There’s no doubt that he will be absolutely devastated right now and for the foreseeable, though…
