Ed Sheeran included in Ipswich Town first-team squad for 2021/22 campaign

Ed Sheeran has been included in Ipswich Town’s squad list for the 2021/22 campaign, reports The Sun.

Sheeran may well be a superstar, but in the music industry, there’s never been any suggestion that he knows what he’s doing with a ball at his feet.

Yet, as The Sun report, he has been listed as a squad member for Ipswich town in their efforts to gain promotion from League One to the Championship.

While his inclusion will have raised a fair few eyebrows, certainly within the Ipswich fanbase, it doesn’t appear as though he’ll actually be competing for the club this season.

As is reported by The Sun, Ipswich have revealed that Sheeran’s inclusion is a way of the club expressing their gratitude for his continued support.

Here’s what Sheeran himself had to say, as is reported by The Sun:

“When Ipswich told me I thought they were joking but I love the idea.

“I think this is going be a great season and I’m honoured to be a part of it.

“I just hope this squad number is only ceremonial because I want to see us promoted and that’s not going to happen if I’m playing.”

You never know… if Ipswich find themselves battered by injury in the midst of the long and arduous season to come, we could see Sheeran lacing up his boots and getting involved.
