The former Waterford Hurler John Mullane was on The Irish Independent podcast this week and when asked about the response DJ Carey got at Croke Park on Sunday, he has some very interesting words to say ..

Mullane stated: “I was up there (in Croke Park) and the thing with DJ…he made a mistake and he’s after admitting he made a mistake.
“It’s going through the procedures of the court now. And Jesus, here’s me as someone who’s made plenty of mistakes in life. And who hasn’t made a mistake in life?
“But I’ll be straight with you, it left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s probably hard enough on the family and probably hard enough on DJ Carey that he wasn’t able to turn up there yesterday.
“But y’know the GAA…we’re not about booing people on All-Ireland final day. I don’t know, I can’t speak for others.
“There is probably a certain percentage that would see that it was okay to boo but it didn’t sit well with me.
“From a neutral’s point of view it didn’t sit well that people would start booing a person on All-Ireland final day – and a person that wasn’t even there on All-Ireland final day.”

DJ, took money to enjoy a lavish lifestyle while pretending to have cancer, my mother lasted 6 weeks with cancer n died in UHW at only 61, weeks never got or asked for a penny, I have fiends who have lived through and died of cancer, none had much money and none ever asked for it for their families either, it was a disgusting thing to do, if he went in and robbed the local bank I’d have respect for him as an edjit but to prey on people’s goodwill because we all know someone with cancer is just wrong on every level, n I don’t care if those people are rich n can afford it…just wrong and he should be vilified,
As a Tipp man living in Waterford its hard to say for sure who’s right but everyone is entitled to an opinion.
John Mullane ! What are you thinking ? Carey is no better than any other criminal ! He has hurt a lot of people mentally and financially , and to do it under the guise of cancer is unforgivable !!…. people are entitled to boo at a scumbag like that , as you are free to “go soft” on a contemporary ! He deserves no accolades at all he did the unthinkable ! Let him wallow in his own doing !!
