Derek McGrath commits to Waterford until 2019

After a promising second season in charge of the Waterford senior hurling panel Derek McGrath has been rewarded with a three-year extension to his contract.

The Déise native has been in charge of the county hurlers since late 2013 and had a year left on his current deal.

But after a season that saw Waterford earn promotion to Division 1A and then cruise to a 10 point victory over Cork in the League final, the county board decided to promote stability by extending his deal to 2019.

Waterford also had a better Championship campaign than in previous seasons. They beat Cork again to reach the Munster final, before falling to Tipperary. They recovered to beat Dublin in the quarter-finals before eventual champions Kilkenny put an end to their season at the semi-final stage.
