Deontay Wilder suffered his second defeat in a row at the weekend.

Wilder was knocked out by Zhilei Zhang in the fifth round of their contest in the 5vs5 card in Saudi Arabia.

Before the fight he had hinted at retirement if he was unsuccessful against ‘Big Bang’, and judging by his last two performances it looks like father time has caught up with the former WBC heavyweight champion.

Deborah Wilder, his mother, revealed that she reminded the ‘Bronze Bomber’ of his achievements but told him it’s time to enjoy his life now.

She told USA Today Sports: “I texted him and said, ‘Son, we’re having a party for you.

“‘You gave us the best boxing in USA when boxing was dead. You’ve gotten older. You’ve ran your course in your journey.

“‘It’s now time to celebrate’. He brought back boxing to the USA, and we enjoyed all those knockouts.

“I taped them and I’m going to look back at them. We are going to laugh, we are going to cry. But we gonna be happy.

“Enjoy your life now. Teach other young men how to become a champion.”

Wilder has now lost four of last five fights but has yet to officially announce a decision on his future.
