Heerenveen defender Rami Kaib is set for a spell on the sidelines after breaking his jaw in a pretty ridiculous manner.
When players suffer broken bones or serious ligament injuries, there’s usually a particular tackle, landing or fall that it can be attributed to.
Harvey Elliott, for example, was challenged by Leeds United’s Pascal Struijk. It was arguably not even a foul, but the teenager’s ankle folded underneath him.
Heerenveen’s Rami Kaib unfortunately doesn’t have a comparable story to tell when people ask him how he managed to break his jaw.
As reported by voetbalzone, Kaib broke his jaw while eating a carrot. We’re not joking.
There is some suggestion that Kaib suffered a knock to the face in training, which presumably left his jaw weakened, but the final blow was dealt by a carrot.
You have to wonder if the health benefits of eating vegetables really do outweigh the risks. Kaib would likely argue that they don’t…
