Danny Mills believes Lionel Messi is NOT YET in consideration for GOAT status 🐐

Danny Mills believes that Lionel Messi won’t be considered one of the greats until he lifts the World Cup.

Argentina is only two wins away from winning their first world cup since 1986, but considering the calibre of opponent that is still a huge ask. They must beat Croatia in the semi-finals on Tuesday night before facing either France or Morocco in the final this weekend.

Messi is having the tournament of his life and has seemingly turned back the clock but nobody can ever outrun father time, as we have seen with Cristiano Ronaldo. This is most definitely his final opportunity to win the World Cup.

Former player, Mills, believes that if Argentina doesn’t win the tournament outright, Messi will not be on the same level as Pele or Diego Maradona.

The 35-year-old has won everything in the game except that elusive World Cup. He almost got his hands on it in 2014, but thanks to a dramatic Mario Gotze winner, Germany walked away with it.

This is his last chance to replicate Maradona and win the World Cup but we’re not quite sure whether that should determine his GOAT status.
