BREAKING: Cristiano Ronaldo asks to leave Manchester United

Manchester United superstar has reportedly asked the club to entertain offers for him between now and the end of the summer transfer window.

As soon as it became clear that Man United were not going to qualify for the Champions League, a major question mark emerged over whether Cristiano Ronaldo would continue at the club.

Man United comfortably have the necessary finances to afford his salary, even outside of the Champions League, but would Ronaldo want to waste one of the latter years of his career outside of the competition?

Perhaps not, with news breaking today via The Times‘ Duncan Castles, who has known links to Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, that the player has requested that Man United listen to offers for him.

Both Chelsea and Bayern Munich are mentioned in the report as potential destinations, but the Bavarian giants have already publicly denied that they have any interest in signing the Portugal captain.

The Chelsea avenue is an interesting one. New owner Jorge Mendes is understood to have had a sit-down chat with Mendes, with Ronaldo coming up as part of the conversation.

Whether Man United would be prepared to sell to Chelsea is the one major, lingering question mark, but that is certainly something to keep an eye on as this situation develops over the coming weeks.
