Cristiano Ronaldo texted Piers Morgan immediately after the final whistle to tell him that he did get a touch on the ball after his goal was instead awarded to Bruno Fernandes.
Initially, the 37-year-old uncontrollably celebrated as he thought he had opened the scoring for his country in their 2-0 win against Uruguay. However, after closer inspection, the goal was officially awarded to Bruno Fernandes after replays showed that he did not get a touch on the midfielder’s cross.

The debacle once again highlighted the friendship between Ronaldo and Morgan, with the latter racing to Twitter to insist the goal should be awarded to the former Manchester United striker. Unlike Ronaldo, the Portugal fans will not care who scored the goal, as the victory secured their place in the next round and put them in pole position to advance as the winners of their group.
