Another season starts in the hurling this year and it’s nearly 20 years since the rebels have won a senior hurling All-Ireland, a famine for the size of Cork and it’s hurling tradition.

While speaking to the media this week, Cork manager Pat Ryan admitted that anything less than bringing the Liam McCarthy cup back to Leeside would be a failure.

“It would be a failure, yeah. If you look at the managers that have gone before me, they did brilliant things.

“But it’s back to John Allen since we last had a manager win an All-Ireland and I think all of those managers would say that they probably failed.

“They did brilliant things, brilliant work but unfortunately . . . not unfortunately, look, it’s great — we’re coming from a county that has had fantastic success in hurling through the years and if we don’t win an All-Ireland it will be a failure.”
