Broadcaster Clare Balding OBE proved just how much of a national treasure she is with an unintentionally cheeky comment while chatting to gold medal winner Matt Richards.
Richards was part of the Team GB foursome which won gold at the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.
The triumph will no doubt have been the proudest moment and biggest achievement of the 18-year-old’s short life to date, and Balding ensured that it got even better.
Soon after winning gold, with the eyes of the country on their TV screens as Richards prepared to give his victory speech live on the BBC, Balding came out with this…

You can sense immediately that the pair of them are trying their best not to burst out laughing, with Balding picking the wrong words to commend Richards for his swim.
It was an honest slip-up from Balding, and one that she’ll probably take in good humour. It’s made for a quite superb 11-seconds of television.
