On Wednesday, shocking news emerged from the F1 world that Red Bull had sacked Christian Horner.
Horner played a significant role in Red Bull’s success over the past 20 years, and the statistics speak for themselves. Under his guidance, Red Bull has won eight drivers’ titles and six constructors’ championships.
Red Bull has acted swiftly to announce Laurent Mekies as the new CEO, who was later confirmed as the team principal.
Max Verstappen, the reigning World Champion, penned an emotional post on Instagram.
He wrote: “From my first race win, to four world championships, we have shared incredible successes. Winning memorable races and breaking countless records. Thank you for everything, Christian!”
Horner has been previously linked with a move to Ferrari, but according to Ralf Schumacher, he could join French constructor Alpine.
As reported by The Sun, Schumacher said on a Sky Germany podcast: “(Flavio) Briatore (Executive advisor at Alpine) is looking for a good new team boss. And he and Horner know and respect each other. I believe this is what he has always wanted and never achieved at Red Bull Racing.
“It’s something he couldn’t get anywhere else. That’s why I think he might be very interested in moving to Alpine as the boss.”
