Chorley FC’s groundsman Ben Kay has been in the news a lot recently for his unwavering commitment to his job at the club.
He first broke into the news as he slept on Chorley’s pitch to ensure the ground wouldn’t freeze over and cancel their huge FA Cup clash with Derby.
His commitment paid off with sixth tier side Chorley beating Championship side Derby County too.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live how he they had to stay under a heated tent as the club doesn’t have enough money for undersoil heating.
🗣“We had a nightmare … the generator packed in … believe it or not, the guy who fixed the generator had to come from Derby”@chorleyfc groundsman Ben tells @chriswarburton_ he’s spent all night in a tent on the pitch to make sure today’s game against Derby County goes ahead pic.twitter.com/OGJP5VUJ9Z

Chorley were then drawn against Premier League side Wolves for last night’s fourth round clash and Ben was called into action again.
Huge thanks to @Wolves
Changing rooms left spotless and total respect during warm ups 👏🏻👏🏻
Staff were unreal

He tweeted after the game about how nice Wolves’ staff were and how the Premier League players who I’m sure have cleaners at the Molineux had no problem leaving a spotless dressing room behind them.
Exactly what you want to see, they’re at the top level right now but they haven’t forgotten where they came from.
