Chelsea could be set to break the world record transfer fee paid for a defender.
Chelsea’s priority for the summer transfer window was to strengthen in defence, something they have achieved by bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella.
Still, Thomas Tuchel does not appear entirely content with his options at the back. It looks as though another centre-back is still high on the German’s shopping list.
The centre-back Tuchel is understood to want is Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana, with Chelsea already having multiple bids turned down by the Foxes this window.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are expected to bid again for the Frenchman, but it could take a world record fee to convince Leicester to sell this month.
The current world record fee for a defender stands at £80m, set by Harry Maguire as he left Leicester to become a Manchester United player.
Considering what an enormous flop Maguire has been at Old Trafford, Chelsea ought to beware before being suckered into a world record deal by Leicester.
