Chelsea vs Manchester City Champions League Final Preview

Chelsea will take on Manchester City in the Champions League final on Saturday the 28th of May, Manchester City were handed the Premier League trophy on Sunday and the blue side of Manchester will hope to finish off their season with finally lifting the Champions League, while the also have the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

Chelsea of course won the Champions League back in 2012 when Didier Drogba scored that famous penalty in those famous Nike, Orange boots, to give the blue side of London their first Champions League. The two giants of English football and two of the richest clubs in the world will do battle at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto.

Chelsea’s form has been quite worrying for Chelsea fans coming in to this final over the past two weeks having barely qualified for next seasons Champions League thanks to Gareth Bale goal helping Spurs to overcoming Leicester City on the final day of the Premier League. Chelsea were also made look very ordinary against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, as the foxes went on to lift the domestic trophy.

This is a final though and form goes out the window as it’s a one off game, Manchester City will feel the weight of history on top of their shoulders also where as Chelsea might feel they have nothing to lose with Manchester City being a lot of people’s favourites. Chelsea also an excellent shot stopper in Edouard Mendy and a talented midfielder that will remind many a Chelsea fan of a younger Frank Lampard in Mason Mount and Antonio Rudiger is in the form of his life.

Manchester City have a lot of talent in their squad and will be anxious to let their club legend and top goal scorer Sergio Aguero leave the club in style by finally lifting the Champions League trophy, which he hoped to do all those years ago when he joined Manchester City.

Predictions, I expect this to go all the way and could very well go to a penalty shot out, (I just hope there’s no Chelsea player that ends up slipping due to his boots again) when it gets to that stage it’s a lottery. If I was to pick anyone I would have to tip Manchester City, but I would not be surprised at all if Chelsea lift the trophy it really will be that tight. I just think that Manchester City might have too much and that want for European success will get Pep Guardiola and his men over the line.
