AWFUL news for Chelsea as journalist reveals star player is set to leave on free transfer

Chelsea are the champions of Europe and the Premier League leaders, but Thomas Tuchel’s men could be set to lose one of their finest players for FREE.

The Blues have been a different beast since Tuchel took the reins back in January, with the German successfully bringing the best out of a group of players that were all too inconsistent under Frank Lampard.

One player in particular that Tuchel has brought in from the cold is Antonio Rudiger, who wasn’t even making the substitutes bench under Lampard but is now considered one of the best defenders in Europe.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, Rudiger’s contract, signed in the summer of 2017 while Antonio Conte was at the helm, is due to expire in June of next year. It now looks unlikely that he’ll be penning an extension.

Matt Law of the Telegraph, who tends to be the most reliable in the business when it comes to reporting on Chelsea news, has told the London Is Blue Podcast his understanding that Rudiger is set to depart.

“My personal opinion, I think Rudiger will go. There’s no progress. It feels like they’re too far apart.”

That would be an immeasurable blow for Chelsea and Tuchel, who would likely have to spend an enormous amount of cash to have any chance of replacing Rudiger with a player of equal quality.
