Chelsea fear that a nine-point penalty could become a legitimate possibility if the government don’t offer even further leeway, reports the Daily Mail.
The report claims that Chelsea are due to fork out a whopping £28m on wages come the start of next month. At current, the sanctions put upon owner Roman Abramovich have hamstrung the Blues to the point where making that payment will be difficult.
The government are understood to have increased their lenience towards Chelsea in a bid to help them make ends meet, but the Daily Mail report that there is still a great deal of anxiety at the club that they are heading into a financial armageddon.

The understanding is that, should a new owner not come in quickly, or the government U-turn on their financial shackling of the club, Chelsea could legitimately find themselves heading into administration and be handed a nine-point deduction.
That could see Chelsea miss out on Champions League qualification, which would be another major financial blow and would also make them less appealing to any potential owners. It’s a time of real uncertainty in SW6…
