Burnley promoted back to Premier League at the first time of asking 🥳

Burnley beat Middlesbrough 2-1 last night to confirm their promotion back to the Premier League a year after being relegated.

Burnley finished 18th in the Prem last season on 35 points, bringing to an end a run of six years in the league, but they have fired themselves straight back up to England’s top tier for next season.

Because of Luton’s 0-0 draw with Millwall earlier yesterday afternoon, Burnley needed a win against Borough to seal their return to the promised land and they did so, courtesy of goals from Ashley Barnes and Connor Roberts.

Under the management of Vincent Kompany, the Clarets also broke the record for the quickest time to get promoted with 39 games, beating the one previously held by Reading in 2005/06 (40).

It’s now been revealed that if they win all of their remaining seven league matches, they will also eclipse Reading’s Championship points total of 106 from 2005/06, another potential record for Kompany to add to his collection.

With promotion now confirmed, his next aim will be to make sure they win the division and with the way they’re currently playing, that looks entirely possible.
