FIREWORKS landed on the pitch in the midst of Burnley’s derby day victory over Blackburn Rovers on Sunday afternoon.
With bonfire night having been and gone, you could be forgiven for thinking we’d seen the last of the fireworks for this year, at least until New Year’s Eve.
However, as Burnley coasted towards an impressive victory over rivals Blackburn, one which would see them sit top of the Championship, all hell broke loose.
With a minute left on the clock, an audible bang was heard from outside the stadium. A few moments later, down came the fireworks onto the pitch.
It’s not something that you often see, and while the crowd enjoyed it, the players are pretty fortunate that they were not struck directly by the missiles.
Were they to have struck someone, rather than landing safely on the turf, it could have left them with some pretty nasty burns, so the police will no doubt be looking into it.
One thing’s for certain, it’s not something that you see every day on a football field, is it?
