Brutal Kevin De Bruyne believes Belgium are ‘too old’ to win World Cup

Belgium is the 2nd ranked team in the world and one of the favourites to win the World Cup outright.

Belgium won their opening game against a very strong Canada team and despite a few wobbles looked relatively comfortable. This puts them in a great position to instantly qualify for the quarter-finals with a win over Morocco.

But that hasn’t stopped people from criticizing the team.

Surprisingly their captain, Kevin De Bruyne, does not fancy the team’s chances of winning the tournament.

In an interview with The Guardian, the Man City player claimed that the team are past their best.

“I think our chance was 2018. We have a good team, but it is ageing.” he told The Guardian.

“We lost some key players. We have some good new players coming, but they are not at the level other players were in 2018. I see us more as outsiders.”

Belgium does have the oldest squad in the World Cup with an average age of 31.

The last thing you want to hear from your captain is that you’re too old to win but maybe De Bruyne is playing mind games. Either way it was a bizarre thing to say in the middle of your World Cup campaign.
