The Hurling for Cancer charity night was on last week where a load of celebrities from the sporting world in Ireland attended including Brian Cody & The Two Johnnies, there was a load of money raised on the night again for the Irish cancer society.

Brian Cody is known for having a tough front, but Johnny Smacks managed to get a smile out of the former Kilkenny manager when the former primary school teacher made a cheeky job at the Roscrea native.

Speaking on The Two Johnnies podcast and quoted by balls.ie Smacks said the following;

“I went into the dressing room beforehand and Brian Cody was there and I was like ‘what do you say to someone that’s retired?’

“So I said ‘congratulations or commiserations Brian, I don’t know what way you want to take it’.

“He was talking to one of the lads and I said to one of the lads who I’m friends with, I was like ‘is there any shorts lad’?

“And Cody just said, ‘not in your size’.

“He was laughing and he was like ‘only small ones there’.

“I was like wow everyone seems to be burning me lately.

“Then I went out and I made him smile, I Johnny Smacks, made Brian Cody smile.

“People said it couldn’t be done and I did it.

“One of the flukiest scores of all time but one of the greatest.
