Speaking to RTE after Kilkenny won their third Leinster title in a row, Brian Cody the cats manager was asked about the handshake between himself and his former player now Galway manager Henry Shefflin.

“I never consider myself as being somebody who should be anywhere with regard to our team,”
“The players win the games and everything happens on the field. I never look for any publicity or anything like that so I feel the same about things now.
“Our players are by far the most important thing that we have and also we would have huge respect for the teams we’re playing at all times – players, management, everybody – so look, the game goes ahead.”

How come no one in rte noticed shefflin shaking his head after the handshake, clearly not impressed with whatever Cody said to him, he seemed annoyed at the very least…it was as frosty a handshake as you could get, this is not over yet..
He was shaking his head at the boos that were going around the stadium not what was said!🙄

As a Kilkenny man I must say I am very disappointed with Brian Cody when a match is over you shake hands and say well done , what Cody’s problem is I just don’t know , has let himself down and also hisCounty , has lost a lot of support and is becoming a bitter old man
I would agree this man has lost any class he had. Henry Shevlin a great servant to Kilkenny should not be treated with contempt and that’s what annoys me.Henry has gone through enough tragedy in the past few months and should have been shown more respect by Coady who has become very bitter man.
As a Kilkenny man then you would have watched or been at many a final with Cody at the helm and the you would have, as a Kilkenny man, like myself seen, that it’s the losing manager that goes to the victorious manager and congratulates him , just like Liam Sheedy did when Tipp lost to Kilkenny and just like Brian Cody did when Kilkenny lost to Tipp….!🙄
Seems very bad winner and loser I mean it is sport st the end of the day good to hear honest Kilkenny man say it as it is poor form from Cody to a 10 time all Ireland winner who lost his brother recently. Had the man any heart at all I wonder?
Brian Cody has shown no respect for Henry, and he has lost all respect after his behaviour on Sunday which was clearly giving Henry the 2 fingers what a tragady after all the years they worked as a team to win lose or draw. The first thing all managers do at the end of the game is to shake one another hand.
What the fcuk are you on about, what the entire Shefflin family and not just Henry suffered, has no bearing on this, Cody was down with the Shefflins and was with Henry after the news of Paul’s passing came to light, what you are saying is like saying that last weekend, Wales should have given the world cup qualifier game to the Ukraine and let then progress to the finals, just because they’re in the middle of a war where 100s are dying! I was part of the first christy ring hurling school as a player with meath part of our training was we got to stay in st kierans colledge for a week brian coady in to give us some advice he insisted on disipline at all times what a father figure cos i never knew my dad you can see disipline in his comment about him not looking for glory glory have greatest respect for all hurlers past abd present especially King Henry .this is management and im sure Brian Coady would admire Henry if Henry went out of his way to shake his hand look brian in the eye till next time .Henry is in management now manage galway grow one more inch taller disipline stop shaking the head manage galway get on with it take ot on the chin for hurling and the world who wdmires you
The KK players have so much respect for Shefflin that Cody has to create a bit of a bite between the teams. Id hope that if Shefflin was managing a team that wasnt a threat to KK there would be a bit more warmth there. But both managers should look for each other at the final whistle and just shake hands, there doesnt have to be hungs.
Cody was disrespectful, shook every hand he could find in croke Park to avoid Sheflin.

In my opinion, as a team manager, I would never approach the other manager after the final whistle if I won, always and immediately as the loser. Henry should have immediately gone to congratulate Brian, instead he stood on the line like a scolded child.
You have some cheek talking about Brian Cody like that. Shefflin is the one with the problem playing to the camera like that, shaking his head he needs to grow up if he is going to be on the side line. He stood there for a long time like a bulldog chewing a wasp and didn’t even approach his own players and then hid in the tunnel to meet the Kilkenny players that is the actions of an immature man.
I agree with you, Cody has become a bitter old man, Henry was the better man on the day, Cody may as well be more of a man as nobody knows when his last game as manager will be.
Henry looked shell shocked after the match, seemed to be in a state of disbelief. What he was doing shaking hands with the kilkenny team members was hard to fathom. He should have been with his own team Galway.

Cody let his true colours show in the 1st game and just showed every bit of a soar prick on Sunday it’s time he left for wat Henry did for hurling in Kilkenny Cody should be ashamed for the carry on of himself wat a hurler Henry was wat a manager he is and a credit to the sport well done Henry
