The German league has been playing behind closed doors since November as lockdown restrictions for the Covid-19 pandemic were heightened.

Club chairman Watzke is eager to get fans back into the Signal Iduna Park stadium as soon as possible and medical staff should be rewarded with free tickets for putting their lives on the line during the global pandemic.

‘We all moan about how our lives have changed due to corona. But those who risked their health every day under the toughest conditions are real heroes to me,‘ Watze told Bild.

‘To invite you, that would be terrific, that would be a great honor for us!’

The Bundesliga season started in September with up to up to 12,000 fans being allowed to attend Dortmund games under the then restrictions but by the end of October coronavirus restrictions in Germany had reduced the crowd number to just 300.

Dortmund is famous for it’s huge ‘yellow wall’ which is one of footballs most impressive sights and the German side, like all football clubs, will be hoping to get their fans back as soon as possible.
