Smaller stadiums are more restricted and will be limited to either 4,000 fans or half of their capacity, whichever is the lower number.

The news means that people may return to the stands for the final day of the Premier League which is due to take place on May 23rd.

Johnson is hoping to lighten restrictions even more from June 21st which will impact this summer’s Euro 2020 tournament which was delayed by 12 months due to the current global pandemic.

Wembley is one of the chosen venues for the tournament and will play host to seven matches, including all three of England’s group games, a last-16 tie, both semi-finals and the final.

Should the rollout of fans being allowed into stadiums work, Wembley may be able to have a crowd of up to 45,000 people which will be the biggest event the UK will have held since early 2020.
