“I’ll be back” – Billy Joe Saunders gives update on his condition after undergoing eye surgery

Billy Joe Saunders has provided an update on his condition after defeat to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez left him needing eye surgery.

Saunders headed into the fight full of confidence, and was giving as good as he got for large periods of it.

However, one uppercut from Canelo, which landed straight on the British fighter’s right eye, left his corner with no choice but to pull him out.

It’s not the way that BJS will have wanted to exit the fight, but at risk of his career, or even his sight, it simply was not worth continuing.

Billy Joe Saunders could not continue after his right eye swelled shut.

The focus for Billy Joe now is recovery, and he’s quoted by the BBC providing an update on exactly that:

“Operation yesterday all went well.”

“You win some and lose some didn’t feel out my league but got caught with a good shot.”

“I’ll be back.”

Where he goes from here, in terms of his next fight when he is able to return to the ring, remains to be seen.

This injury will give him a significant period of time away from the sport to reflect, which in wake of such a disappointing result, might not be such a bad thing.
