Besiktas sporting director reveals his hopes for Dele Alli

Six years ago, Dele Alli was tipped for greatness by the English media, with the midfielder racking up 18 assists and nine goals in the Premier League under Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham finished 2nd in the table, seven points behind champions Chelsea.

However since then, Dele Alli’s numbers have reduced massively, partly due to the dismissal of Pochettino who was replaced by Jose Mourinho as Alli’s form never fully recovered.

In January 2022, Alli moved on loan to Everton in an attempt to reignite his career. He made 13 appearances in seven months at the club before heading to Besiktas in August, where he has played just seven matches.

Besiktas’ sporting director Ceyhun Kazanci has recently admitted that he is confused by the midfielder’s form and hopes he gets back to his best.

No-one can answer whether Dele Alli can do it right now.

He is working very hard. He is a player who reached £87m three years ago. He had a fall. But he is working hard.”

Kazanci also says that he feels Besiktas manager Senol Gunes is the right man to get Alli back to his best.

Senol is famous for returning many players whose careers have been on the decline. We hope that he will be better in the second half of the season.”

A man who was once the future of England football, Dele Alli will need to work very hard if he is to return to his best and at 26, he still has plenty of time.
