Bayern Munich sets up training camp for refugee children

Bayern Munich is to create a training camp for refugee children while donating a further €1m towards refugee projects in response to the European migrant crisis.

The Bundesliga club said youths attending the camp will be provided with German lessons, meals and football equipment.

Bayern players will walk out for their next home game, September 12 against Augsburg, holding hands with a German child on one side and a refugee child on the other “as a symbol for the integration of refugees”.

More than 2,000 migrants arrived by train in Munich on Tuesday, when police said they were “overwhelmed” by donations from residents.

Some 800,000 migrants are expected to arrive in Germany this year, a fourfold increase on last year.
