Barcelona director speaks out over the future of Lionel Messi

Barcelona director Guillermo Amor has revealed that the club are holding onto hope that Lionel Messi will remain at the club beyond this summer.

Messi was unable to prevent Barca falling to a 2-1 defeat in last night’s El Clasico, a loss on their record which could prove costly in their efforts to win La Liga.

With the Argentine’s contract expiring at the season’s end, and there still being no official announcement as to whether he’ll stay or go, where Messi will be playing his football come the start of next season is anyone’s guess.

Barca director Guillermo Amor, speaking in wake of the defeat to Real Madrid, has revealed that the club remain hopeful that he will stay – meaning last night’s El Clasico was not his last ever El Clasico.

When asked if last night’s clash with Real Madrid would be Messi’s last, Amor is quoted by Goal saying:

“We hope not; we hope he decides to stay at Barcelona and plays many more Clasicos with Barcelona.”

Since the very beginning, you felt as though a new Barcelona contract was the most realistic outcome for Messi. Now the ship has steadied at the Nou Camp, it’s nigh on a certainty.

But, in football, anything can happen.
