The Carolina Panthers have confirmed that they are releasing quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield, who was the no.1 overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft, is now on the lookout for a new franchise after struggling to make his mark in Carolina.

He was released by the Browns in the summer after they signed Deshaun Watson, but Mayfield’s move to Carolina has not gone as well as he would have hoped. He has been outshone at the franchise by the other quarterbacks in PJ Walker and Sam Darnold after struggling to recover from an ankle sprain he picked up in Week 5 back in October.
His release from Carolina has got fans thinking that the San Francisco 49ers could make a move for the 27-year old, with Jimmy Garoppolo out for the season with a foot injury.

The 49ers are currently using 3rd-string quarterback Brock Purdy as Garropolo’s replacement, and their fans will feel that Mayfield could be a smart pick up if they are to keep up their impressive run towards the playoffs.
