REVEALED: The ‘three strikes’ that saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stripped of Arsenal captaincy

The Daily Mail have revealed the ‘three strikes’ that saw Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stripped of the captaincy.

The Gunners released a statement on Tuesday afternoon to confirm that Aubameyang would no longer be club captain. He would also not be part of the squad to face West Ham United in the week, just as he wasn’t against Southampton over the weekend.

Some may see it as harsh, Piers Morgan was one notable Gunners supporter to took to Twitter to speak out against Mikel Arteta in wake of the news, but this is no isolated incident, Aubameyang has been guilty of several disciplinary failures during Arteta’s reign at the Emirates.

As is reported by the Daily Mail, there were in fact THREE strikes that saw Aubameyang lose the armband for good.

First of all, Aubameyang was pictured alongside a tattoo artist with a freshly done tattoo while the United Kingdom was in lockdown due to coronavirus. The report notes that the matter was internally dealt with.

Secondly, as is stated in the report, Aubameyang was left among the Arsenal substitutes for the North London Derby after turning up late. Bad punctuality is hardly the mark of a good captain, is it?

The most recent offence was the final straw, with Aubameyang skipping a training session as he awaited his PCR test results, having returned from France a day late. Arteta has been left in no kind of forgiving mood this time.

Do you think that Arsenal stripping Aubameyang of the captaincy was fair, or is it a little harsh?
