Arsene Wenger has received criticism from football fans after he aimed a dig at the World Cup teams who had been eliminated for their ‘political demonstrations.’
The former Arsenal manager’s reputation has taken a big hit after he criticised teams who took a stance against Qatar’s human rights laws.
Wenger, who is the chief of global football development at FIFA, gave a speech at the World Cup Technical Study Group briefing this morning. He labelled teams who performed well in the tournament as “mentally ready” because they didn’t protest against the Qatari government.
Arsene Wenger is a FIFA employee speaking in Qatar. Once he decided to take that path, he signed up to this nonsense and risked his reputation. https://t.co/75lQ0po5UI

Has anyone in football pissed away as much good will as Arsene Wenger? Always seemed like such a thoughtful, reflective person about both sports and the world, and now he’s off shilling the 2 year world cup plan and whining about players having political opinions. https://t.co/8jY9L1m6vo

Arsène Wenger is the prime example of either dying a hero, or living long enough to see yourself become the villain. Really disappointing to see the man responsible for my love of football actively backing people who are ruining the integrity of it.
