BenchWarmers columnist Fabrizio Romano has provided the inside track on Arsenal’s pursuit of a new midfielder.
The Gunners have been in fine form under Mikel Arteta, the kind which has had some supporters believing that a top four finish could be on the cards.
The North London giants are certainly in the mix to qualify for the Champions League, so should an opportunity to strengthen this month present itself, they’d be wise to take it.
As per the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, who is a monthly contributor to BenchWarmers, a new midfielder is high on Arteta’s list of priorities for this month, with the club considering targets.
Arsenal are working to sign a new midfielder. Bruno Guimarães appreciated but currently not discussed as January target – deal too complicated, €45m fee. 🔴 #AFC
Arthur Melo on loan has been discussed days ago – but still no talks/contacts with Juve. Three names in the list.

Arsenal’s interest in Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes looks set to roll over to the summertime, or at least so suggests the information provided by Romano via Twitter.
Arthur Melo, formerly of Barcelona, has struggled to establish himself as a sure-starter in Turin. He could be a more plausible option for Arsenal to get through the door.
Either way, you get the impression that those behind the scenes at the Emirates will be working hard to strengthen the squad this month, which is only good news from Arsenal’s perspective.
