Contact made: Diego Costa could be set for surprise January return to London

Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry over former Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

Costa is one of the most recognisable characters in the Premier League era, with the Spaniard playing the pantomime villain role quite expertly during his time at Stamford Bridge.

It ended in tears between himself and the Blues, with Costa falling out with Antonio Conte and returning to former employers Atletico Madrid.

He most recently played for Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro, with his contract having been terminated this month.

Costa is now a free agent and will presumably be looking for a club to play for before the end of the transfer window.

There is some suggestion that club could be back in the Premier League.

According to 90min, Arsenal have made an enquiry to Costa’s representatives over the possibility of him making a surprise move to the Emirates this month.

Arsenal are in need of cover in attack, with Alexandre Lacazette leading the line through absolute necessity in the absence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Whether Costa, at 33-years-old, would be the right addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad is up for debate, but one thing’s for sure, it wouldn’t be boring!
