Will Arsenal Shine in This Year’s Premier League?

It’s that time of year again – the Premier League is upon us and the titans of football are vying for victory. As well as being able to enjoy the thrill of watching every match, you can bet on Premier League matches and show your dedication to your favourite team by having a little flutter – that way you could also be a winner if they manage to score the winning goal! But which team do you think will reign supreme this year?

If Arsenal is your team to beat, you may be wondering whether they will shine this season, despite their recent well-documented struggles with injury. Read on to find out more.

A bold campaign despite injury woes

The run-up to the Premier League is viewed as a critical time for football clubs, with a solid pre-season seen as necessary to boost the confidence of players and segue into a successful championship. Arsenal certainly didn’t disappoint during pre-season, trouncing Chelsea 4-0, but several players were forced to take time off due to injury.

Among them was Kieran Tierney, who has had more than one significant injury battle since he departed from Celtic in 2019. Despite returning to training just before the Premier League began, Tierney’s latest injury prompted Jamie Carragher to publicly express his concerns about the young Scotland International star’s fitness.

Another high-profile player to be struck down by injury was Arsenal’s new signing, Fabio Vieira, who suffered a bone injury in his foot. Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Emile Smith Rowe were also among the injured.

However, if coach Mikel Arteta was worried in the lead-up to the Premier League, he didn’t seem to show the strain, and after their first Premier League match against Crystal Palace he demonstrated his excitement at his club’s achievement, stating,

“The team came here to play the way we wanted to play – we were dominant, we were a threat…[…]…I have had this feeling for the first few weeks since the boys started pre-season. They are ready, they look hungry, with that mentality that they really want to win.”

The team to beat

It’s not just Arteta who is enthusiastic about his team’s chances. It turns out many punters also view Arsenal as the team to beat, with Betfair revealing that the Gunners are the most backed team, receiving 1 in 5 wagers. They were followed by Spurs (with 17% of bets) and Manchester United (with 15%).

This faith certainly doesn’t seem misplaced, as despite the injuries the team has been on excellent form over the past few months. Not only did they manage to win their first Premier League match against Crystal Palace at the beginning of August, but they also scored significant victories over the likes of Sevilla and Chelsea in pre-season matches.

With such a solid start to the Premier League, it looks like Arsenal has its sights set firmly on the trophy, and it seems fair to say that they have an excellent chance of succeeding – unless, of course, a fresh injury obstacle flares up to cause trouble over the coming days.
