What a season it has been for the Red side of Merseyside, Liverpool will more than likely seal their 20th league title this weekend when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in front of to their faithful fans at the famous Anfield Stadium.
The job that the 46 year old Dutch man Arne Slot has done should not be underestimated. The former midfielder had some big shoes to fill in replacing fans favourite Jurgen Klopp.
Jurgen Klopp did an excellent job in getting Liverpool back to where they belong, he made some brilliant and smart buys in the likes Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker etc.
The big German was extremely unlucky that he was the manager of Liverpool when up against probably the greatest team ever to play in the Premier League in Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City team.
All those years of competing took it out of Jurgen Klopp and in March 2024 he announced that he would be stepping down at the end of the season. With that Arne Slot was announced as his successor within a few days.
Arne Slot has now come in and taken his chance, helped by an off season in Manchester City and Arsenal still failing to deliver. But full credit has to go to Slot he gather the troops got off to a great start in the league and haven’t look back since.
It will be a nice end to the season for the Reds if they manage to seal it against Spurs on Sunday at the Merseyside venue. The last time Liverpool win the league was in the middle of Covid and the fans didn’t get to fully enjoy the celebrations. You can be sure that will be put right this weekend if the Reds get the job done in front of their fans.
The big question when Liverpool do lift the trophy and the celebrations have come to an end, can Liverpool go again next season?
Their start striker Mohamed Salah did sign on for another season only a few weeks ago. If Liverpool can make a few more signings and keep the backbone that they already have, who’s to say they can’t go two in a row.
Right now though, huge credit has to go to Arne Slot and his management team. Sunday will be a day for all their fans to celebrate, it’s been a long season and one thing about a league, it never lies. Liverpool deserve to have their day in the sun.
