Referee Andre Marriner was wiped out by Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this evening.
Marriner was appointed to officiate Tottenham vs Leeds in North London, a fixture between two teams who are in pretty dire need of a victory.
The referee will have been hoping to go under the radar through the course of the contest, such is the mark of a good referee, but he’s found himself under the spotlight.

Marriner hasn’t done anything wrong – there’s been no dodgy decision making – rather he’s been left on his back-side after a coming together with Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips had absolutely no intention of bumping into Marriner, but inadvertently bundled him to the crowd and rolled him over.
Marriner had to get to his feet and attempt to catch up with play after being knocked to the floor, an embarrassing moment for the referee – but the crowd loved it!
