It seems that Alvaro Morata was just as shocked as the rest of us after he found the back of the net on Thursday evening.
Atletico Madrid had to really dig deep to claw out a 2-0 victory against Elche in their first game back after the World Cup.
Elche had a man sent off just before half time and then Atletico had their own player off soon after it. After a back-and-forth game, Joao Felix broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with a cool finish.
Morata then sealed the victory with Atletico’s second soon after although he didn’t realise it at the time.
The Spanish striker was played through on goal, but his shot was blocked by the defender and bizarrely looped over the keeper into the back of the net. Morata had no idea as he had feigned injury immediately after the block.

Elche finished the game with nine men after one of their players was sent off in the 90th minute.
Atletico Madrid now sit third in the league, ten points off leaders Barcelona.
