What is with the North not using anthem singers as well? Doesn’t really make sense either
That was disgusting have they forgotten there is 2 parts to the NZ anthem but so ready to launch into the 2 Irish anthems. It is so rude go ABs
Ireland are disgraceful in how they welcome away teams, shows small team mentality
In fairness Irish anthem was also cut, big time, think the band was under pressure for time to allow the Haka, bad planning by organisers & TV.
I knew it!! I was like WTF??? What are the Irish playing at??

  1. Nothing unexpected from Ireland. Arrogance at its worst. So pleased they lost to All Blacks, and will more than likely be knocked down significantly in world rankings.

  2. The answer is to outlaw the Haka- pretentious and nothing to do with Rugby.
And, just to be balanced. Drop the crap Irelands Call.

    1. The Haka has a lot ro do with Rugby. It’s a cultural cornerstone of a Nation who happens to be the most consistent and winning Rugby nation on the planet. The Haka has been part of their Rugby tradition (and therefore International Rugby) for well over a centuary. It is more important than the Anthem and is a huge display of respect toward the opposition. The Irish advance toward it is recieved culturally as a signal of respect back.

    2. The Haka has always been the trademark of the New Zealand rugby team wherever they play and is enjoyed by most, why should they stop it????

  3. Maybe….the world is tiring of the Māori version that no one understands! Pushing Māori stuff down everyone’s throats at every opportunity now.
There needs to be a balance. Some is fine but typically there is always some that don’t know a good thing they’ve got and push for more until everyone is sick of it.
The ABs have so very few Māoris in the side now..
Ioane had to lead the haka and he is Polynesian heritage.

    1. Can’t understand the French anthem but we listen. So they can listen to Maori. It’s an official language of our country.

    2. Not like English-speaking pundits understanding the Italian anthem, or any other non-English anthem for that matter. It’s part of their anthem & had every right to be there.

Rieko Ioane is of both Samoan & Māori heritage, thus he led the haka in the absence of TJ & Codie.

    3. Maori is an official language of New Zealand. Your lot have been ramming English down everyone’s throats for centuries. You want balance do you? I highly doubt it, you and your lot want to take what you want from this land and bugger the rest. And not that you care, but Ioane is both Samoan (dad) and Maori (mum). All you want to do is spout your hatred towards Maori under the guise of its about just rugby.

      1. Don’t smear all Tangata Tiriti with Bobs racist BS please. That in itself is racial prejudice. Prejudice=prejudging.

    4. Rieko Ioane IS Māori…. He is from my Iwi, Te Whānau a Apanui….Jeeesshhh, sooooo shows what you know!!! CRIKEY!

    5. Mate Maori is New Zealand’s official language and english second and we are a multi culture society. Maybe you’re in the wrong country.

      1. Maybe he’s in the wrong century. ? Respect to the Haka and the meaning behind it . Long May it continue.

    6. Reiko and Akira’s Mum is Māori Ngapuhi hard. These boys grew up learning te reo, from their mother and grandparents. Their father is Samoan. How come every high school first XV has a haka, and the whole school joins in to tautoko. How come every national team has a haka both men and women. How come all the winners at the Olympics received hakas from their fellow countrymen at the NZ village. How real people that have actually made a real contribution to everyone are honoured by haka at awards, graduation ceremonies, at occasions of recognition and even tangis and funerals. Aw that’s right “everyone is sick of it “

    7. What’s it got to do with being Maori or not .
You don’t no someones full ancestry just by their name or where they might have been born .
It’s part of our culture and National.pride when we hear and if it helps us unite as a nation and continue to acknowledge we are a bicultural nation or the better for our future of accepting .

    8. …Ianone didn’t ‘have’ to lead the haka – he was given that honour – “he is Polynesian heritage”? Maori are Polynesian – do your homework!…

    9. Seems the new people on this earth have the mentality that it’s okay to remove culture and heritage….if that is the case lets remove the royalty of England and St paddy’s day and Halloween of Ireland.
The haka has been performed since the 1890’s and has been part of New Zealand Aotearoa international rugby, yet only in recent times has it been called to be binned or removed.
I find this disrespectful by people who lack respect of the game let alone knowledge of tradition or understanding of it.

    10. The Haka has been performed by the All Blacks for 130 years. It is something that is part of rugby tradition so get over it.

    11. Ypu knows its an official language right. Good luck telling SA they have limit their anthem to English, when you do record it.and put.on youtube, it.will go viral

  4. Maybe future All Black tours shouldn’t include the Northern hemisphere countries which might see officials make amends and do what’s right. Not acceptable to say the least at the moment.

    1. The NZRU would go bankrupt in a year without what they get paid by the NH teams each November. Just seems to be empty stadiums over there. Still, just watch as SA progress with their NH moolah while NZ wither away.

      1. NZ get sod all for the internationals in November in the international window, it has been quite a bone of contention. Why do you think they play games outside of the window, and even then both unions make the cash.

  5. Ireland is a bilingual country you’d think they would have honoured the bilingual national anthem!!!

  6. Bob you do realize that his mother is māori? Or is that forcing some more māori down your throat…
Not that English was forced down ours.

  7. The anthems bit is nothing more than trying to take advantage of being at home. (Not that it worked). We shouldn’t get drawn into moaning about it like they want. The haka is good for all of world rugby. People who know nothing of the game know of it – why get rid of that advertisement.

Don’t take much to get all the do gooders going. It’s tiresome how much they get…yet want more. Getting more based on race is no different to apartheid…ask anyone from SA how that worked out….
