Alan Shearer ruthless on Arsenal as Romelu Lukaku “had a field day” on Chelsea debut

Newcastle United’s record goal scorer Alan Shearer was on Match of the Day last night looking back on Chelsea two nil win against the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium. “Lukaku had a field day,” said the former England captain.

“If he could have hand-picked a team to play against in his first game back, the way Arsenal are at the minute defensively, it would have been this Arsenal team.

“He absolutely battered them from start to finish.

“Everything he did, whether it was his touch, running in behind, in the air, control, everything, they just couldn’t cope with him.”

And Shearer slammed the lack of support Arsenal’s players gave one another in defending against Lukaku.

Asked if Mari should have done more to tell his Arsenal team-mates to close Lukaku down, Shearer said he should have been: “Absolutely screaming.

“It’s not as if those two are youngsters in Holding and Mari, they’re experienced players now. You’ve got to be screaming at your midfielders, to say: ‘This cannot be allowed to happen’.
