Roman Abramovich reportedly urged Vladimir Putin to HALT his invasion of Ukraine on the day that Russia invaded.
Abramovich, who has owned Chelsea since 2003, was sanctioned by the UK government has a consequence of his alleged close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The oligarch has subsequently been forced into selling Chelsea, his prized asset, despite a flurry of reports in recent days confirming that he IS involved in peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
That doesn’t appear to be any sort of breaking news, either, with the Financial Times reporting that Abramovich tried to convince Putin to end the invasion on the very day that it started.
Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich arranged to have a private meeting with President Vladimir Putin the day Ukraine was invaded. According to two people with knowledge of the discussion, Abramovich made a strong case to end the war.

The report claims that Abramovich arranged a meeting with Putin and took the almighty risk of questioning his judgement and imploring him to end the war before it went any further.
Putin and Abramovich evidently were not on the same page, with the war continuing at the time of writing, but it’s a clear indicator of just how much Abramovich opposes the invasion of Ukraine.
That’s not to say he is exempt from wrongdoing or the sanctions were not deserved, but is he really the cold-blooded demon that the UK government have painted him out to be? The jury’s out…
