Former Liverpool star Jason McAteer called for Eddie Hearn to set up a £1 million fight against old teammate Roy Keane.

Both former Ireland players have had a patchy history with one another, and their bitter rivalry was revived when Keane brought up the topic on an episode of The Overlap’s Stick to Football last week.

Speaking on his red card after elbowing McAteer in 2002, the United legend stated that ‘just because you play with someone doesn’t mean you’re mates.

‘But McAteer, as usual, had plenty to say for himself.’

The former Liverpool star furiously replied on X.

“Players shouting their mouths off!!! Funny. You can’t shut the clown up now.” He wrote.

“And no we weren’t teammates ’cause he never showed up, and when he did he went home!!! Please!!! Bore off.”

While working on beinSPORTS, McAteer explained his side of the situation before jokingly suggesting a boxing fight for £1 million each.
