The IRFU will have to make a big decision on Andy Farrell as he is expected to coach the British & Irish Lions on their tour of Australia in 2025.
The Irish coach is the favourite to get the job and has been since Warren Gatland revealed he would not be putting his name forward for the position.
Gatland went on to back Farrell for the job, highlighting his fantastic work with the Ireland squad.
“But I think it is the opportunity now for someone else to be head coach and Andy Farrell would have my backing for the job.” he said via Sky Sports.
“You cannot deny what Ireland have achieved as a nation over the last few years and you are starting to see the fruition of the alignment between the Irish provinces and the union. There is no doubt that Andy has done a fantastic job.”
Although nothing has been confirmed it is considered only a matter of time before he is announced as the British and Irish Lions coach.
The IRFU will have a big decision to make on who will take over on an interim basis during that period.
