Lionel Messi is set to beat Erling Haaland and claim his eighth Ballon d’Or according to reports from SPORT.
The Argentine playmaker is coming off the back of an incredible year after leading his country to their first World Cup since 1986.
This will be Messi’s eighth Ballon d’Or, widening the gap between him and Cristiano Ronaldo to three while simultaneously becoming the first player outside of Europe to win the award.

The 36-year-old joined Inter Miami in July and has transformed David Beckham’s Inter Miami immediately, taking the MLS by storm.
But some fans have labelled it a robbery, with Norwegian striker Haaland failing to win despite scoring 52 goals in 53 games and winning the treble with Manchester City.
