Dimitar Berbatov has urged Antony to ‘stop p*****g people off’ and claimed that his opponents won’t respect him.
The Brazilian winger signed for the club last summer for an astronomical fee from Ajax, following close behind his former manager, Erik ten Hag.
Since arriving in England, Antony has demonstrated his skills on the ball at every opportunity that he’s got but club legend Berbatov has urged him to tone it down.
‘If you mock your opponent then they’re going to kick the s*** out of you and you’re not going to have the respect of the players you’re playing against,’ he told Betfred.
‘His problem is that he can p*** people off and he needs to correct this.
‘I think he’s been a good signing.
‘However, in my eyes, he does sometimes get deserved criticism because he shows off on the pitch and he tries to make the opposition look foolish in a negative way.’
The former Bulgarian international went on to praise the Brazilian but claimed that his skills ‘provides nothing the team’.
‘Sometimes his trickery provides nothing for the team and if he can eradicate these negative elements of his game then it will greatly improve his impact on the team,’ Berbatov continued.
‘If he can remove these traits, then he can improve a lot more because he’s a great talent with great qualities and he scores great goals as well.’
