South Africa has made a mocking reference to Tom Curryâs accusation that he was racially abused during their Rugby World Cup trophy parade.
Bongi Mbonambi was gifted a jersey with the Afrikaans word âWen kantâ on the back which means âwinning sideâ, in reference to the English flankerâs claims that he was called a âwhite c***â.
The incident occurred during South Africaâs semi-final win against England with Curry telling referee Ben OâKeefe: âSir, sir, if their hooker calls me a âwhite c***â, what do I do?â.
Springbokâs fans claimed that Curry had misheard Mbonambi and he actually said, ââwit kantââ which translates to âwhite side.â
World Rugby concluded that there was insufficient evidence against the claims and closed it.
At South Africaâs winning parade in Cape Town, Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis gifted Mbonambi a jersey with âWen Kantâ on the back.
