The Manchester United goalkeeper could be banned from playing for the club during AFCON under FIFA rules.

The Cameroon goalkeeper was expected to play for his international side during the Africa Cup of Nations next month but is reportedly considering turning the opportunity down.

Andre Onana risks missing six games for Manchester United if he does get called up and is reportedly worried about losing his place in the squad according to The Guardian.

But if he does choose to stay and fight for his place and reject the call up he still may be banned from playing under FIFA regulations.

According to the Sun, the FIFA regulation states that:

“A player who has been called up by his association for one of its representative teams is, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant association, not entitled to play for the club with which he is registered during the period for which he has been released or should have been released… plus an additional period of five days.”

This would mean that the club would have to receive permission from Cameroon if they want Onana to play.
