Jason Sherlock has talked about the racial abuse that Lee Chin received and says the was encouraged by the reaction of his Wexford teammates.
The incident occurred during a challenge game on Saturday between Wexford and Tipperary when a spectator racially abused Chin from the sideline, leading to the referee blowing up the game early.
In the video footage that was later released, you can see all the Wexford players immediately crowding around the culprit at Carrick Swan.
Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast, Sherlock said that he was encouraged by the reaction of Chin’s teammates.
“Sport is a special place, and it has to do its part to ensure the right behaviour is tolerated,” The former Dublin footballer said.
“That’s one piece I was encouraged by in the video, the response of Lee’s teammates.
“When I played, no one knew what was right or wrong. The players, you could see, knew that this was wrong, and was out of order. I was delighted to see that.
“I hope Lee took a lot of reassurance in the response of the players, that they were there to support him and they understood that this was wrong.”
